Welland Councillor Welcomed Back

Tony DiMarco has spent the last 2 years attending council online, not allowed in the chamber, after confrontations with the former Chief Administrative Officer

A Welland city councillor has been welcomed back to council chambers by most of his colleagues.

Tony Di Marco has not been allowed for two years, attending online, after confrontations with former CAO Rob Axiak, who has left the city.

Councillor John Chiocchio says all elected officials are needed in the chamber.  "He brings out points that are valid at times, and I think his constituents in Ward 4 want him back.  Councillor Green made the motion, who obviously has spoken to those residents, and there's a positive number that want him back."

However, Councillor Leo Van Vliet says Di Marco got what he deserved, and doubts a change in attitude.

"He has had a confrontation with more than one person, I mean, he had the Integrity Commissioner spend a lot of time because I smiled at him.  It continues on and on and on, and I can tell you right now that as soon as he comes back it'll be the same story all over again."

A few councillors wanted to be sure Di Marco has served his time before approving his return.
