Welland CAO Optimistic for 2026

Jessica Ruddell is pleased with 2025 progress, but wants to build on that

Welland's Chief Administrative Officer is looking to the new year with optimism, while thanking the community for helping in 2025.

Jessica Ruddell noting some of the accomplishments of the last year, such as modernizing and improving services, and starting an online service so people can track the city's progress on certain issues.

There's also the city's first mini-forest, planting more than 1,700 trees, as well as a new community space in Dain City, and the Encampment Taskforce, to better support those without a home.

She says there's also provincial support for hospital renovations, and grant for a new hospital for Welland, and recruitment of new doctors to Welland.

There's also digital parking permits to make key service quicker and easier.

The 2026 budget was planned with focus on affordability, improved ward boundaries for better representation, and bought more employment lands on Ridge Road, potentially creating up to 800 jobs.

Moving into 2026, the city wants improved communication with residents, and raising the bar on transparency, service quality and quality of life.
