There will be no Canada Day celebration Merritt Park this year.
The City of Welland has decided to cancel its Canada Day festivities due to COVID-19.
The annual event usually attracts more than 7,000 people with lots of activities, live entertainment and a fireworks display.
Manager of Recreation and Culture Richard Dalton says this is disappointing, but we need to prioritize the health of our community and continue social distancing.
He adds he’s looking forward to the next year’s Canada Day celebration.
Welland’s Leadership Team is hoping to resume normal business operations on July 6th, but this date may be adjusted due to provincial and federal orders.
