Niagara’s jobless rate shot up to 12.6 percent last month, but it’s still lower than the provincial and national average.
Ontario’s rate rose to 13.6 percent in May, which is slightly lower than the national average of 13.7.
Niagara’s unemployment rate was sitting at 9.9 percent in April.
Ontario’s rate was 11.3 percent and the national rate hit 13 percent.
Statistics Canada says the Canadian economy also 289,600 jobs last month, as more people started looking for work.
