Two people have been convicted for fire safety violations in Welland.
During the summer and fall of 2019, Welland Fire and Emergency Services conducted fire safety investigations at 309 Beatrice Street.
Numerous Ontario Fire Code violations were noted during the inspections, including expired and inoperable smoke alarms.
Directions were provided on how to correct the situation, however, prosecution against the property owner and corporate director was initiated this past February.
The pair were fined $23,000 plus a victim fine surcharge of 25 percent of the fine.
Welland Fire & Emergency Services warns the fire code compliance is mandatory in order to ensure the safety of residents.
