Emergency crews were called to the lower Niagara Gorge, close to the Whirlpool, early Saturday afternoon.
The boy had been clinging to a rock and the firefighter used the quick release to come off rope while rescuing him.
The NRP’s marine unit rescued him downstream afterwards and the Niagara Parks Police High Angle Team pulled the boy off the rock.
Niagara Parks Police are reminding all hikers to stay on the marked trails.
