Two Local Politicians Asked for Apology

Anti-racism group wants apologies concerning Israel/Hamas war, from St. Catharines Mayor Mat Siscoe and Regional Councillor Laura Ip

The Niagara Palestine Coalition is demanding an apology from St. Catharines Mayor Mat Siscoe and Regional Councillor Laura Ip for their recent stance on the Israel/Hamas war.

The group accuses the two of silencing people who wanted to speak at Regional council meeting on January 25th, and also wants Ip to step down as the region's diversity advisory chair.

Siscoe led the way for council to pull a motion from the agenda calling for a ceasefire, which Council largely backed.

The Region's Anti-Racism Association and the Palestine Coalition called the region's decision a double standard, in calling the ceasefire request divisive and outside the region's mandate.

The groups added the region can't stand with Israel, while more Palestinians are killed in Gaza.

The Palestine Coalition chair adds anti-Palestine racism is an issue because some far-right Zionists see themselves better than Arabs and others.
