Federal employees can no longer use TikTok on their government-issued mobile devices.
CANADA - TikTok is officially banned from all federal government-issued mobile devices.
According to a statement from Treasury Board President Mona Fortier, a review by the chief information officer of Canada has determined that the social media platform "presents an unacceptable level of risk to privacy and security." It also says the ban is a precautionary measure, adding there is no evidence that government information has been compromised.
The United States and the European Union have also banned their federal employees from using TikTok on government-issued mobile devices.
There are reports that the Ontario government could also issue a TikTok ban. Treasury Board spokesman Ian Allan has stated that the Ford Government is currently considering it.
TikTok is a Chinese-owned video-sharing app.
