Company says plan would not produce excess energy and emissions
Thorold city council has voted against a proposed gas plant expansion.
Northland Power is looking to expand their plant, but local residents and advocates are worried about the plans.
Jack Gibbons of the Ontario Clean Air Alliance said it doesn't make sense to build new gas plants when scientists are encouraging lower greenhouse gas pollution.
The company argued the project would not produce a large amount of energy and emissions.
Northland also spoke of plans to use renewable natural gas to offset some of the emissions.
The proposed expansion was expected to be built near the current plant on Allanburg Road.
