The Public Health Agency of Canada says 20 people have fallen ill from August 2023 to last month
ONTARIO - A Listeria outbreak that's linked to recalled plant-based milk products has now killed three people.
Ontario's Ministry of Health confirmed the death yesterday. The Public Health Agency of Canada also stated that 20 people have been sickened by listeriosis, an illness caused that's by the Listeria bacteria, from last August to last month. Fifteen of those cases have been hospitalized.
When you break it down by province Ontario accounted for 13 of the cases, while five were in Quebec, one was in Alberta, and one was in Nova Scotia.
The affected products include Silk brand oat milk, almond milk, coconut milk, almond-coconut milk, and almond-cashew milk. It also affects Great Value brand almond milk with best-before dates up to and including October 4th and containing the number 7825 in the product code.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency says the contamination originated on a production line at a third-party beverage packaging facility that Danone Canada uses in Pickering.
