Roughly $12-million will be spent to revitalize Fairview Park and John Gage Park.
St. Catharines city council has endorsed the plan to enhance recreational activities while maintaining the parks' connection to the Third Welland Canal.
Phase One includes construction of a pedestrian bridge and observation deck over the remnants of the historic swing bridge, as well as playground, water play area and gazebo.
During phase two there will be a skate park, and improved walking trails and, in phase three, multi-use courts, pickleball courts, and places to play chess and table tennis.
