Jennie Stevens pens letter to Education Minister Stephen Lecce, saying Niagara's teachers need access to COVID-19 boosters before in-class learning resumes.
A local MPP is urging the province to bring booster clinics for childcare and education staff to Niagara.
In a letter to Education Minister Stephen Lecce, St. Catharines MPP Jennie Stevens says teachers here deserve to have a local booster clinic.
"While we appreciate the effort being made to set up accelerated booster appointments for education workers in the GTA, it is not reasonable to expect working teachers and education staff to get on the highway to drive long distances to get their booster. We have as many as 6,000 teachers and education workers in Niagara’s two school boards doing their absolute best to support our community - they provide an essential service and deserve to have a local and accessible clinic for boosters."
Stevens also notes that while she has worked with local school boards for small pop-up booster clinics for later this month, further support is needed by January 17th, when in-person learning is slated to resume.
Last week, the province announced several dedicated COVID-19 booster clinics for education and child care staff in the GTHA, but also noted officials are working with all public health units to quickly provide third doses to education and childcare staff.
