First plastic straws and now plastic bags. St. Catharines City Council will consider a motion tonight, to start banning single-use plastic bags as of December 2020.
Councillor Kevin Townsend will bring the motion forward.
If it's approved, the City would work with the local businesses that would be impacted, in order to find alternatives to the bags.
Single-use plastic bags have already been banned in Montreal, Victoria and several maritime provinces (Newfoundland, Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia.)
