Slain Toronto Police Officer Laid to Rest

Police officers across Canada and the United States gathered today for the funeral of a Toronto police officer.

Thousands of police officers from Canada and the United States attended a funeral service today to pay tribute to a Toronto Police Constable.

Constable Andrew Hong, 48, was gunned down last week in Mississauga, during a shooting rampage that spanned the GTA.

Today's service included a solemn salute from fellow officers and a speech from Premier Doug Ford.

"It's impossible to make sense of a tragedy such as this, because there is none", Ford said. "We've lost someone very special, and that is a void we cannot fill."

Hong's casket was draped in a Canadian flag, and bagpipes played as his coffin was carried in.

This morning, motorcycle officers accompanied the hearse along Toronto streets.

While the funeral was not open to the public, people lined the Highway 407 overpasses along the route to watch the hearse pass by.

Hong was one of three people killed on September 12 when a gunman went on a shooting spree in the GTA.
