City of Niagara Falls says crossing on Kalar Road fixed, after working with CN since late last year
A sense of relief for the City of Niagara Falls now that the railroad crossing on Kalar Road, near Beaverdams, is fixed.
The city's GM of Municipal Works Erik Nichols says CN rail fixed the wood that was breaking up, prioritizing that over thousands of other crossings nationwide.
He credits the public for adding pressure to CN. "Because it was such a high complaint area for us, and a safety issue, where people are coming to an abrupt stop, and the driver behind them might not know there is a bumpy surface coming up, you have a higher risk of rear end collisions."
He says there wasn't anything for the city to do, as the road to the track is ok.
He tells us they've been working with CN since last year, and credits the mayor's office and area residents. "Very adamant about their contacts, and communications with CN, with their help we were able to get CN's attention on this, as they have so many crossings. It's always a challenge to get them to prioritize this one over something else in, say, western Canada."
The work happened over a few days last week, finishing Sunday night.
