The incident occurred in Grande Prairie, Alberta.
The RCMP say criminal charges may be laid.
A video shows Freeland being approached by a large man who hurled profanities at her as she entered an elevator.
After the footage began circulating online over the weekend, politicians of all stripes have expressed support for Freeman.
