Public Health Committee Votes Against Mask Report Motion

The Region will not receive monthly reports on the latest evidence surrounding mask use.

St. Catharines Councillor Tim Rigby brought the motion forward during yesterday's Public Health Committee Meeting but it was defeated in the end.

Acting Medical Officer of Health Dr. Mustafa Hirji says Public Health staff have been quite busy during the pandemic and the reports would have created a lot of extra work.

Niagara's mask bylaw has been extended until April 1st, 2021.

Regional Council could decide to lift the bylaw earlier, but it wouldn't make much difference because the Ford Government has made them mandatory in all indoor public spaces across Ontario.
