Dr. Kieran Moore, Ontario's new Chief Medical Officer of Health, says he's not in favour of the province entering Step Three ahead of schedule.
Dr. Kieran Moore says he'd prefer to wait a full 21 days before entering Step Three, due to concerns surrounding the Delta variant.
This comes as the province entered Step Two today, two days ahead of schedule, which was supported by former Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. David Williams.
Moore however, is ruling out a similar move, which will see the re-opening of indoor businesses such as movie theatres and gyms.
"I do want us to celebrate our high immunization rates and the achievements that we have realized in Ontario but I think a 21-day interval is prudent and I personally don't want to see that shortened because we need to be data driven in the face of this new entity."
Moore says the Delta variant is "a difficult adversary" and the province needs to remain in Step Two for a full 21-day period in order to fully understand the potential impact of re-opening communities.
Ontario has already reached vaccination bookmarks for entering Step Three, which called for 70 - 80 percent of residents to have their first shot and 25 percent to receive both.
