We have entered the first stage of re-opening Ontario’s economy.
Lots of people were able to go back to work yesterday, but Premier Doug Ford says officials will be monitoring the trends in Niagara and beyond to make sure we don’t experience a spike in cases.
“If we see things going in the wrong direction, we will be fully prepared, and we won’t hesitate to roll things back if necessary. I’m hopeful we won’t go there, but we need to be ready for all possible scenarios.”
Ford says our best defence against the virus is following public health measures.
He says we need to continue to practice social distancing and stand at least two metres apart from others whenever possible.
“If you’re going out for necessities or if you’re taking public transit and you can’t keep two metres apart, we recommend that you wear a non-medical mask or a face covering.”
According to the Chief Medical Officer, anything that covers your nose and mouth can help protect you and others around you from the virus.
Ford says the ban on all social gatherings of more than five people remains in effect.
"We need to keep using common sense, whether its families visiting relatives or friends by car or sitting outside on a driveway two metres apart from each other.”
