Province recommending Pfizer vaccine over Moderna for 18 to 24 year olds, due to an increased risk of rare heart condition.
The province is urging people in the 18-24 age group to get the Pfizer shot over Moderna, due to concerns surrounding a rare heart condition.
Officials say spikes in myocarditis and pericarditis cases have been noticed in young adults who received the Moderna vaccine, particularly among males in that demographic.
The province notes between June and August, the risk of those diseases for men in that group was one in 5,000 after a second Moderna shot, compared to one in 28,000 for those who got Pfizer.
Officials note the side effect is still rare, and most cases are considered mild.
