The DSBN, Niagara Catholic and other school boards across the province will have the option to stagger the start of the school year.
This would send different cohorts of students back to school on different days during that first week leading up to Friday.
If the school board feels that it needs more time Education Minister Stephen Lecce says he's willing to work with them.
"If they believe its really important to take a few extra days to restart the school year and stagger the start to reduce the volume of kids coming into those schools, I am going to work with them in a partnership of keeping the kids safe."
