The provincial government is introducing new legislation in an effort to connect more communities to high-speed internet.
The Supporting Broadband and Infrastructure Expansion Act proposes reducing the cost of attaching broadband wirelines to utility poles, as well as providing access to municipal rights of way to install broadband on municipal land.
About 700,000 Ontario households and businesses either don't have access to adequate broadband speeds or any internet connection at all.
The province is proposing these measures so that more people can work from home, connect with family and friends, and access necessary services.
