Ontario is stepping up support for the province's agricultural and horticultural societies as the pandemic looms on.
The government is providing $1.1 million in grants targeted at Ontario's agri-food sector.
Eligible agricultural societies will receive $5,000 each, and eligible horticultural societies will get a grant of $1,500 each.
This comes after a $5 million investment in the sector from the province in January to offset the impact of cancelled events.
Niagara West MPP Sam Oosterhoff says this will help local farm families offset revenue losses.
"Local agricultural events like the West Niagara Fair and Wainfleet Fall Fair are seasonal highlights for many farm families across Niagara. This additional funding for local agricultural and horticultural societies is an important step to seeing a return to our festive fall fairs."
