The money will be used to protect shelter staff and residents while preventing homelessness in the region.
The funding will be put towards acquiring hotel and motel spaces in order to support physical distancing between shelter residents, hiring more shelter staff, and purchasing necessities such as personal protective equipment and cleaning supplies.
Niagara West MPP Sam Oosterhoff says it's important to protect those most in danger in the region right now.
"We know shelters and congregate living settings are especially vulnerable to COVID-19 and our government is providing additional support to municipalities across the province to protect shelter staff and residents."
The announcement is part of a $225 million investment made by the province through the Social Services Fund.
