The provincial government is investing $25.5 million in technology for the agri-food sector.
This week, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Ernie Hardeman announced the Agri-tech Innovation Program.
The program is designed to help farmers and processing businesses adopt innovative solutions to help protect workers during the pandemic while ensuring the sector's productivity.
Niagara West MPP Sam Oosterhoff spoke highly of the move.
"The health and safety of farm workers and embrace of innovative farming practices are top priorities for local farmers in Niagara. Our government is ensuring local growers and operators are adequately equipped and supported as we prepare for a new growing season."
Applications for funding may include sorting systems in vegetable processing, optical grading, and automated pruning machines.
The first intake will run from May 17th to June 21st.
