Property Taxes Going up in Niagara Falls

City council approves 2022 budget

Niagara Falls homeowners will pay a bit more on the municipal portion of their property tax bill this year.

City council saying yes to the 2022 budget which includes a tax increase of 3.9 percent or $55.92 a year for the average homeowner.

Council was faced with a dilemma this year, income is down because of the pandemic, but there are still provincially mandated services and projects that require funding.

To keep the levy lower, council decided to dip into the city's reserve fund.

City staff also noting there are other influences on this year's budget including the upcoming municipal election, the Canada Summer Games and charitable requests.
