Premier Ford Changes Tune on Thanksgiving

Premier Doug Ford has changed his tune on Thanksgiving celebrations and is asking Ontarians to only celebrate with those already in your household, saying that is what his family will be doing.

ONTARIO - Ontario Premier Doug Ford is back tracking on his Thanksgiving message from yesterday.

Ford says they are asking everyone to only sit down at Thanksgiving with the people in your household. Yesterday Ford said he was going to keep his Thanksgiving celebration to under 10 people. Today he is saying they are just going to celebrate with the members of the household.

"I would like to make something very clear, this Thanksgiving we are asking you to spend the holiday with just your household, that means sitting down to dinner with only the people you live with and yesterday, I spoke with my wife Karla and that is exactly what we will be doing. In my case, all my girls but my family is no different than anyone else and we are all going to make sacrifices to stop the spread of COVID-19."

Ford did say if you are living alone, you can team up with another household.

"If you are alone, you can pair up with one other household but only one and as much as possible, please limit the amount of people you are getting close to. Thanksgiving is normally a time when people get together with family and friends, but these aren't normal times."

Ford says we have seen what happens when we relax on this virus.

"Thanksgiving is normally a time when people get together with family and friends. In the United States, on the fourth of July and here at home on the Civic Holiday and Labour Day, we saw people relax and let their guard down and as a result we saw the numbers spike. So for this Thanksgiving weekend, it is not enough just to limit the size of our gatherings, we need to stick to our immediate households."
