A variety of ideas, opinions, expressed in meeting put on by Port Weller Residents' Association
It was a packed Grantham Lions Club Wednesday night, as residents aired their thoughts on the Ssonix Products explosion in St. Catharines.
The meeting was put on by the Port Weller Residents' Association.
One of the main ideas was adding a permanent road.
The crowd applauded when one resident told City Councillors Phillips and Dodge it was a blessing the Canal was closed that morning. "If that bridge had been up, I worry it might have been more than one person who lost their life that day. It absolutely would have been more than one building that was destroyed that day. But what I think we would like to hear more about are some concrete plans that are underway."
Councillor Dodge asked for patience as the fire marshall does his work, with another council meeting planned for month's end.
One resident, who lives near Northrup, voiced her opposition to making that a permanent road, saying many drivers use the road to by-pass the bridge.
"They use it as a fast track... I've personally witnessed two crashes at that intersection. And, in the past week, there's definitely been a massive uptick of industrial traffic."
Councillors Dodge and Phillips did their best to reassure the city is working on another road.
