The Port Dalhousie Piers is about to officially re-open following rehabilitation work.
The announcement was made by St. Catharines MP Chris Bittle.
In 2015, the Port Dalhousie Piers was closed due to structural defects.
The rehabilitation work, which includes installing rock berns at the outer ends of the piers and encapsulating existing piers wuth steel sheet pilings, began in 2019.
The harbour, which includes the piers, is currently owned by Fisheries and Oceans Canada, but it intends to transfer ownership to the City of St. Catharines.
Bittle says many families in the area approached him about the re-opening of the piers.
"Every family in St. Catharines has memories of walking along the piers in Port Dalhousie and through significant investment by the Government of Canada, I am thrilled that the Port Dalhousie Piers will finally reopen to the public. The piers are incredibly important to the residents of St. Catharines and I am proud that our government has been able to rehabilitate them so that we can continue to enjoy this Port Dalhousie landmark now and for generations to come."
