A Port Colborne man has won big while supporting a good cause.
Bruce Wilson won $34,155 from the Port Cares 50/50 lottery.
"I’ve never won anything this substantial before in my life," says the Sarnia native. "I encourage everyone to participate in draws like this, to support local charities doing necessary work for the community. The lotteries are certainly worthwhile causes and you truly ‘never know’."
Wilson, who competes in discus, hammer throw and javelin, says he plans to use the money towards some new gear.
This draw, as well as the previous one, had a guaranteed take home prize of $10,000.
"We’re thrilled with the amazing support for this draw during the dog days of summer," says Port Cares Executive Director, Christine Clark Lafleur. "After our last draw which someone won almost $43,000, we asked folks on our social media if they’d like to see another before the winter and it was unanimous. Some even asked if we’d do one each month!"
There was also an early bird draw on August 13th, and Port Colborne resident Jo-Anne Rollin won a 58' Smart TV.
Funds raised will benefit the food bank and meal program at the charity's Reach Out Centre.
Port Cares says the next draw will launch December 1st.
