Niagara Falls city council approved the move for M.F. Ker Park
Niagara Falls city council is approving a six court pickleball facility at M.F. Ker Park, replacing an aging two court tennis area.
It'll cost $350,000, and include noise reducing curtains.
Councillor Lori Lococo wanted to make sure they've done their homework on potential noise problems, since there'll be more people playing the game. "The residents, once they hear that, sometimes it goes from 7:30 in the morning till 9 at night. The pickleball paddle vibrates, and the hard ball hitting the paddle, is completely different than a soft ball hitting a tennis racket."
Public consultation was done concerning potential noise.
Mayor Jim Diodati says they've brought in specialists to deal with potential noise problems.
But he added to expect this kind of thing around a park. "But it's a park, you're backing onto a park. And, you have to accept that. When you live next to a school, there's noisy kids. When you're backed to a park, it's noisy. I woke up every morning to soccer screaming parents, right against our house."
The work is expected to be finished this fall.
