Premier Ford says he won't hesitate to pull the plug on AstraZeneca as P.E.I has paused use of the vaccine and new recommendations say it should be used by people 55+.
The National Advisory Committee on Immunization is recommending pausing the use of AstraZeneca for people under 55.
Today the Province of P.E.I paused use of the vaccine over issues around blood clots. They had been using it for people between the ages of 18-39.
New guidance on AstraZeneca is expected to be released today.
Premier Doug Ford said he wouldn't hesitate to pause the use of AstraZeneca if it's proven to have adverse side effects.
"I won't hesitate to just say enough, I'd rather wait, if it means a month or two months than roll the dice with AstraZeneca.
He was asked today if people have taken the vaccine already were rolling the dice.
"No, no, don't twist my words, I'm talking about 35 years of age, that is where they see the problems, they don't see it 55 plus. The guidance from the Federal Government is it is safe for people over 55. I'm talking about younger people taking it, 35 years of age, that is where the problem is, not 55 plus."
Canada is expected to get 1.5 million doses of AstraZeneca from the United States tomorrow. Ontario will follow the advice of the NACI and not administer AstraZeneca to anyone under the age of 55.
