O'Toole Opposing Mandatory Vaccines for Travellers and Federal Employees

Conservative Leader Erin O'Toole is speaking out against mandatory COVID-19 vaccinations for federal employees and air, ship and train passengers.

In a statement, O'Toole says by making vaccinations mandatory for these groups, the Liberals are trying to politicize the pandemic.

"Canadians want a reasonable and balanced approach that protects their right to make personal health decisions and the need to keep everyone safe," his statement read. "What they do not want is the politicization of the pandemic. Vaccines are not a political issue."

O'Toole says a Conservative government would instead have unvaccinated federal workers pass a screening test every day, as well as make unvaccinated passengers boarding planes, interprovincial trains and ships provide a negative COVID-19 test.

Last week, Incumbent Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced the federal government would require vaccinations across the federal public service as early as the end of September.

Meanwhile, NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh says his party has argued for mandatory vaccinations while including workers and unions in the loop about plans for mandatory vaccines.
