Ontario to Hold Provincial Day of Mourning Instead of Holiday on Monday

Premier Ford's office says the province will have a provincial day of mourning instead of a holiday on Monday.

Ontario will not have a provincial holiday on Monday.

Premier Doug Ford's office says the province will instead have a day of mourning to mark the death of Queen Elizabeth.

This means schools will be running as normal, and only federal workers in the province will have a three day weekend.

The premier is calling for a moment of silence at 1 PM.

Labour Minister Seamus O' Regan says employers in federally regulated industries may choose not to recognize the holiday.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced today that Monday will be a federal holiday in order to mourn the Queen.

The holiday coincides with the Queen's state funeral.
