Ontario/New York Agree on Nuclear

The 2 leaders signed an agreement working together to develop the energy

An agreement has been signed between the leaders of Ontario and New York for greater collaboration on developing nuclear energy.

Premier Doug Ford met Governor Kathy Hochul in Buffalo this morning, where he spoke of Ontario building the first small modular reactors in the G7.

He noted working with New York will create jobs.  "Nowadays around the world, it's faster, quicker, immediate.  If we don't do it, then other countries around the world, be in China or other countries, are going to be building out, and they're going to leave us behind."

The Governor says she's noticed Ontario working with Tennessee on this.

She adds last summer she directed the New York Power Authority to bring power to the state.  "And this will be the 1st plant in New York State, in over a generation.  I wanted to do this because it's about reliability, affordability, and the thousands of jobs that'll be created in the process, and I was excited about that."

She says this is not your grandmother's nuclear energy, it's safe due to today's technology.
