Ontario Medical Association says school staff needs to be vaccinated in order to protect kids
The Ontario Medical Association (OMA) is urging the province to make COVID-19 vaccinations mandatory for school staff.
OMA President Dr. Adam Kassam says in addition to mandatory masking, it's vital for staff to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
"Children are currently ineligible to receive COVID-19 vaccines and are therefore reliant on others to keep them safe. Schools should be safe places for everyone. That’s why we are calling for vaccine requirements for teachers and others who work in schools in addition to mandatory masking indoors and other measures as schools reopen in September."
This follows earlier recommendations from Ontario's doctors for vaccine certificates and mandatory shots for health-care workers.
However, Premier Doug Ford has said he won't make vaccinations mandatory for school staff.
