Police investigating alleged sexual assault related to Sir Winston Churchill High School.
Officers are appealing to the public for information relating to a reported sexual assault involving a St. Catharines high school.
While no specifics were given, the NRP tells us they're investigating a belated sexual assault related to Sir Winston Churchill High School, after receiving word of gatherings to support victims.
"We have learned of possible student gatherings to support victims of sexual harassment and sexual violence. Peaceful assembly and protest is a right protected rite. We do ask for students to remain at their respective schools.
We ask students who gather to be peaceful, co-operative and patient so that their voices on this important issue is not lost. Students who gather are reminded that COVID safety remains paramount.
Our presence in the area is to give support to the students and staff that sexual violence is not to be accepted and should be reported."
The NRP also notes they previously attended the school after a sexual assault complaint was filed, but no further details have been released about that investigation.
Sexual assault victims who aren't ready to go to the police can receive support from the Niagara Sexual Assault Centre.
