Niagara tow truck companies say Niagara Towing Alliance is not running it fairly
Some tow truck companies in Niagara encouraging the NRPS to take over a list of companies that are called for collision scenes.
Chris York runs Jo's Auto Collision, and told the police services board meeting this morning there's been unfair distribution of calls since the Niagara Towing Alliance took over in 2021.
He says the NTA is run by someone who owns a trucking company. "If you're called out to a scene, and now the tow company that gets called out, gets the entire scene. Now, there's another unfair problem, because you could get called out, and you have one car at the scene. The next company could get called out, there's three cars involved, and they're taking all three cars."
Local trucking companies want to avoid criminal activity that's been happening in Toronto, such as shootings.
Joe Vieira of Regional Towing said he'd like to see new companies operating two years before considered for the list.
He also focused on something else about other companies. "Do not have the necessary staffing, don't have the appropriate equipment that police need when they call out for their various scenes... a big rig rolls over, two car collisions, with a car on its roof. A lot of these companies only have one antiquated truck."
Just as they ended their presentation, York said prior to coming together to advocate for this cause, he and Vieira did not get along.
