They say criminals phone someone, and attempt to get access to credit or debit cards
Another warning from Niagara Regional police about another scam, this one concerning financial institutions.
They say it involved criminals contacting people over the phone, and falsely claiming there's an issue with their debit or credit card.
Police add the call display could show the call is coming from your bank, showing criminals can spoof numbers making it appear to be coming from the bank.
The caller may ask for personal information over the phone, then send someone to your house to get the credit card, claiming it needs to be replaced or inspected.
Police say legitimate financial institutions will never send someone to your house, and add this scam has been observed in Niagara, but also nationwide.
