They thought they heard gunshots but that was not the case.
The NRP were called to an apartment building in St. Catharines yesterday afternoon in the Smythe Street and Oakdale Ave area.
Officers believed there was a man in crisis inside one of the units, so they entered and placed him under arrest.
The man was not hurt and he was taken to hospital for a mental health assessment afterwards.
Officers later determined that the loud noise the man hitting objects in the apartment with stick.
