No one was hurt and no animals were killed after a barn went up in flames on Darby Road in Welland this morning.
Deputy Fire Chief Adam Eckhart says the owner called 911 at around 1:45 a.m.
"Some horses that were on site in the barn actually alerted them to it. They called 911 right away, took some measures to control the fire and started evacuating the horses before our arrival."
A total of 30 firefighters responded to the blaze with six fire trucks and the last of them left the scene about 4.5 hours later.
Eckhart says the cause is believed to be accidental electrical and the damage is estimated at about $75,000.
