Niagara Students Score Well on Testing

Niagara Catholic board says students met or exceeded provincial averages in reading, writing and math, but board also says this is only one way of assessment

Some welcome news from the Niagara Catholic school board concerning reading, writing and math scores.

It shows students in primary reading, writing and math, junior reading and math, Grade 9 math students, and Grade 10 students in literacy tests all met or exceeded provincial averages.

Board of trustees Chair Danny Di Lorenzo says assessments from the Education, Quality and Accountability office are one of many tools to measure student achievement.

However, he adds there's also daily work by teachers and administrators in assessing how students are feeling, or other social issues.

He says other ways of evaluation include confidence in taking part in class discussions, or gradual improvement in class tests and assignment.
