Remembrance Day also observed across the country, important to remember all who died for the freedom we have today
Remembrance Day services held all over Niagara, the country, and globally today.
In Port Colborne, a number of dignitaries spoke on the 80th anniversary of the end of the 2nd World War, including Mayor Bill Steele who honoured veterans of all wars. "I've not sacrificed anything for my freedom, it was given to me by those who came before me and sacrificed so much. They died so I can have the freedom to stand here and give this speech, so I can receive an education, and get a job, and live a free life. I am forever in their debt."
The mayor thanked all the students who showed up, adding they need to continue Remembrance Day.
There was also a service in Niagara Falls.
Mayor Jim Diodati unveiled two monuments. "With the unveiling of these 2 unique monuments, we honour the brave men and women who served in operation between 2001 and 2014, bringing hope, stability and security to the people of Afghanistan."
