The Niagara Regional Police Service would like to hire another 40 officers this year.
The recruiting process takes about three to six months.
They would go through extensive training before they're deployed to frontline and patrol positions in 2021.
This has already been approved by the Niagara Regional Police Services Board and the Niagara Region.
The money has been set aside in the 2020 Operating Budget.
The police service will be holding three information sessions over the next couple of months, for those interested in a career in policing;
- General Information Session (Thursday January 30th, 2020)
- Women in Policing Information Session (Saturday February 8th, 2020)
- South Asian Information Session (Saturday March 21st, 2020)
