Speed cameras are staying put in the Niagara Region, until the provincial government provides more direction on if they'll be eliminated.
The Region's Transportation Director Frank Tassone says should that happen, they'll delve further into other traffic slowing measures.
He repeated the cameras have worked, and revenue is not an indicator of success. "So, I want to assure council that staff will continue to make recommendations on improving the safety of our road network for all users, these recommendations will be data driven, and centred on providing council with best information."
He added roundabouts are also a consideration.
Fort Erie Mayor Wayne Redekop asked him about speed bumps near schools on Highway 3. "I will say, broadly speaking, arterial roads are not a good place for speed bumps, simply because of the speed of traffic. And, the level of winter operations we perform on the arterial road system."
Mayor Redekop wondered if Premier Ford knows the cost of a roundabout.
