Program launched in time for back to school
Kids are heading back to school next week, and the Niagara Region is getting ready.
Yesterday, the region kicked off its Automated Speed Enforcement Program at St. Ann Catholic Elementary School in St. Catharines.
The program looks to encourage drivers to slow down as kids walk and bike to school.
Speed cameras have been set up near the school, on Main Street between Martindale Road and Johnson Street.
Cameras have also been set up on Lundy's Lane between Kalar Road and Montrose Road near West Lane Secondary School, as well as on Rice Road between Quarker Road and Woodlawn Road in Wellan near Alexander Kuska KSG Catholic Elementary School, and on Station Street between Spring Creek Road and West Street in West Lincoln, near John Calvin School.
These areas will monitor speeds until December, at which point the cameras will be moved to four new areas.
