Public Health says fraudsters have been contacting local residents, saying they may have been exposed to the virus and asking for payments for monkeypox vaccines.
Niagara Public Health is warning residents about a monkeypox scam.
Officials say several residents have reported getting calls claiming they may have been exposed to the virus, and asking for payments for the monkeypox vaccine.
Public Health says it doesn't use pre-recorded phone messages to notify anyone who may have been exposed to monkeypox, and it will never ask anyone to pay for the vaccine.
Anyone who receives such a call is advised not to give out personal information.
Niagara Region Public Health is aware of reports from residents who received fraudulent phone calls about monkeypox.
