Niagara Region Explains Continued Restrictions in Long Term Care Homes

The Niagara Region sending out a letter to residents and their families explaining why restrictions are still in place despite vaccination efforts.

This comes as outbreaks have been declared at 7 long term care homes in Niagara.

The letter noting, fortunatelya significant number of residents and essential caregivers have now been given at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

But it goes on to say, unfortunately, even if you have been vaccinated you can still get the virus.

While it does decrease the risk of serious illness, it does not eliminate the risk of contracting it or transmitting it.

At the same time, officials note there is a growing number of cases involving new variants which are associated with an increased risk of ICU admissions.

The health officials say they hope the letter provides context for ongoing outbreak notices, testing requirements and visiting restrictions.
