Hospital says it's working a policy requiring staff to be fully vaccinated or test negative before coming in to work.
Niagara Health is creating a mandatory vaccination program for employees and physicians.
Lynn Guerriero, President and CEO of Niagara Health, says the hospital is preparing a program that requires staff to have both COVID-19 shots or test negative before arriving at work.
"As a hospital, we need to do everything we can to protect our patients, their loved ones and our team. A mandatory vaccination program will also help us to maintain capacity in the hospital and continue to reintroduce services that were paused during previous waves of the pandemic."
The hospital is also considering a full vaccination requirement for all new staff and physicians without the option for testing.
Niagara Health says about 83 percent of its staff are double-dosed.
Earlier today, Ontario's Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Kieran Moore announced health care employers will need to implement a vaccination policy by September 7th.
