Niagara Health is asking people to follow public health measures in order to reduce hospitalizations in the region.
In less than two weeks, the number of COVID-19 patients within Niagara Health has tripled from 11 on March 31st to 39 today.
Niagara Health President Lynn Guerrerio says the patients coming in are younger, and there is an increase in the transmission of variants of concern in the area.
At this point, Niagara Health is at 88 percent capacity in their ICUs, and is opening an additional three beds in order to meet growing demand.
As well, a number of scheduled surgeries are being postponed in order to ease pressures on hospitals.
